Reliance Market Opens its First Store in Rajkot

Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Retail opened its cash and carry store, ‘Reliance Market’ in Rajkot. This is the first Reliance Market store in the Saurashtra Region of Gujarat and the thirst store in Gujarat after Ahmedabad and Anand.Reliance Retail, in a statement said, “The store presents a rewarding opportunity during the auspicious festive occasion for its business partners in Rajkot and the neighbouring regions.”

The store is spread over a 43,931 sqft space and provides a one stop shopping experience to the customer. It is equipped with the most modern storage facilities to ensure freshness of all food products. It has a collection of over 20,000 products, both food and non-food, with a large proportion sourced locally. The assortment ranges from fresh fruits and vegetables, detergents and toiletries, staples, groceries, stationery, footwear, and electronics and IT products. The store aims to cater to the needs of the local kirana traders and the traders of nearby towns, small businesses, hotels, restaurants and offices, offering a range of regional, national and international brands to its partner members at wholesale prices.

While regulations in India do not permit cash-and-carry to sell products directly to consumers and such venture must restrict business to retailers and businesses, the business has proved highly lucrative with thousands of mom-and-pop storeowners in the country finding cash and carry outlets more convenient than local wholesale markets.

Reliance Retail plans to open 20 more stores of Reliance Market, a division of Reliance Fresh by the end of the fiscal yearto take its aggressive plan of expanding its retail cash and carry format. Also on its agenda is opening of at least 60 more stores in the next three years.The eight other Reliance Market outlets in the country are located at Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Anand, Faridabad, Guntur, Chennai and Madurai.
