Reliance Jio to Launch its Lyf Brand Phones

The telecom arm of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, Reliance Jio will now launch its Lyf brand mobile phones. The company is expected to roll out its commercial service by March - April 2016.

Reliance Jio’s Handset Launch

A source informed that Reliance Jio may launch theLyf brand handsets by January 15th, on the day of Makar Sankranti. The phones will be made available in stores across the country and buyers will enjoy free service for around 3 months.

The handsets were made available to employees, two months ago. Nearly 3.7 lakh Lyf brand handsets were shipped and some of these were sold to employees at a discount of 25%.

The electronics retail arm of Reliance Industries, Reliance Digitalwill introduce a four device series in the market. These are named as Earth, Wind, Flame, and Water.The Lyf phones are manufactured by companies including Intex, and Micromax, among others. These phones will be sold at a price range between INR 4,000 and INR 25,000. The Lyf brand phones support Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE), a feature that not many smart phones support. This helps users shift voice calls over the network, ensuring drop-free calls.

Reliance Jio’s Smart Phones Sales

Reliance Jio has inked deals with retailers and distributors for its smart phones. Its existing smart phones have seen impressive sales in the market.

Some handset vendors have recently informed about their exclusive distribution and sales partnerships with Reliance Retail. They will be selling new VoLTE and VoWiFi mobile phones across the country. Some of the devices include Lenovo Vibe Shot, Micromax Canvas Amaze, LG Spirit LTE, Yureka Plus, LG G4 Stylus, Yuphoria, Intex Aqua, Yu Yunique, and others.

Reliance Jio’s 4G Preparations

Reliance Jio bagged 4G airwaves in the spectrum sale of 2010. The company is preparing to offer the best service to the customers.

Reliance Jio holds spectrum in the band of 2300 MHz in all the circles across the country. It is making its own phone that supports the network on these airwave bands. The initial users will help Reliance Jio upgrade its network and work on the loopholes, if any. Reliance Jio is testing its service so that it can offer a flawless experience to subscribers at the time of its commercial launch.

Reliance Jio launched its services for employees and their families on 27th December, the eve of its Founder Dhirubhai Ambani’s 83rd birth anniversary. Around 1.5 lakh people use Reliance Jio’s free service. The company will begin deploying its services in circles, where the work is complete. Its infrastructure comprises of towers and small cells that enhance the signal.

Some of the early tests revealed that Reliance Jio’s 4G network offers a speed of 40 Mbps, which is 10 times more than that of most 3G networks. Experts predict that the launch of Reliance Jio’s commercial service will transform the face of the telecom industry in India. Its service launch is one of the most awaited launches in the country.
