4G mobile is the newest addition to
Reliance’s line of LYF smart phones available at a modest price of Rs. 3,999. The handset is up for sale at Homeshop 18
and the portal has already begun taking orders in advance for the same. Enabled with 4G LTE, the phone gives optimum value
for money.
Flame 3 specifications
The Flame 3 operates on Android Lollipop 5.0 OS software. It is fueled by a quad-core processor that is timed at 1.4 GHz;
thus facilitating the task of using multiple apps. The phone’s 512MB RAM and 4GB memory works efficiently in conjunction
with the processor to provide a rich digital experience. Its memory can also be extended up to 32GB using the handset’s
MicroSD card slot, which makes storing images, videos and other data so much easier. Additionally, it comes with a 2MP
front camera and 5MP rear camera with flash. The handset also comprises a 3.5mm ear jack.
Connectivity options
The handset comes with a 4.3 inch WVGA display with a screen resolution of 800 by 400. It offers a range of connectivity
options like Bluetooth V4.0, 4G with VoLTE, GPS, 3G and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. It also comes with pre-installed FM radio,
thus providing entertainment value. Besides, the phone’s 1700 mAh battery boosts its functionality and is likely to last
an entire day.
Fifth largest smart phone brand
October-December witnessed the launch of a range of LYF phones such as
LYF EARTH 1, LYF WATER 1, LYF FLAME 1, LYF WATER 2, LYF FLAME 2, LYF WIND 4, LYF
WIND 6 and LYF WATER 5 by Reliance. And impressively, the company cornered a seven percent share in the market within the
first quarter of FY16 itself, according to a report by IDC. Moreover, LYF has battled it out to emerge as the fifth
largest smart phone brand in the country, even knocking out incumbent operator Lava.
Smart phone shipments
To satiate the exponentially growing need for 4G devices, Reliance through its efficient network framework has maintained
a steady supply of LYF handsets in the market. The need for 4G smart phones has increased six times more (as March drew to
a close this quarter) as compared to the year before, accounting for almost 15.4 million units.
Fall in shipment rates
However, other smart phone shipments saw a drop in shipment rate by almost 8.2 percent as opposed to the previous quarter.
The report further revealed that with the shipment of 23.5 million smart phones (in the first quarter of FY16); a 5.2
percent growth was recorded when compared to the preceding year. The company has also commenced building its VoLTE device
base by shipping its handsets through the same channels. The report said that Jio’s shipments are likely to increase once
the company rolls out its data services.
A recent report by Economic Times revealed collaboration between Reliance Industries and Apple for a long-term
partnership. The same will involve VoLTE-enabled iPhones that would be powered by Jio’s high-speed 4G services. An
enterprise solution was agreed upon; the same would be created by IBM and Apple for the retail arm of Reliance.
Brokerage firm CLSA even predicted that LYF may soon become a one billion dollar brand by FY16-FY17.
