Reliance Jio Ranks 6th in Terms of Data Usage

The upcoming provider of telephony, broadband, and digital services in India, Reliance Jio claimed the 6th position in terms of the data consumed by subscribers across India. While Jio’s commercial operations are yet to be launched, the pilot launch itself saw over 70 lakh users in the entire country.

The company reported data usage exceeding 13 million GB which comes to an average of 19.2 GB downloaded per user. The service is extremely popular in Jammu and Kashmir, which saw the highest usage rate of almost 3.48 GB per day on average. Currently, Jio services are free for its employees while their relatives pay a nominal fee. Its popularity can be attributed to the high-speed 4G services that are priced reasonably.

This year’s first quarter saw the import of almost 15.8 million 4G devices equipped with LTE technology. The latest Cyber Media Research (CMR) report named Jio as the third largest 4G mobile vendor with a 13% market share. The invite–only offer by Jio, that provided users with locked-in Jio SIM cards which were compatible with LYF devices. This gave users unlimited call, data, and text services for three months.

This LTE-enabled provider had its soft launch on a pan-India scale. Having initiated the test run by encouraging its employees to test the network through free SIM distribution, the company is also conducting final tests before its commercial operations commence.

Since Jio’s aim is to successfully create an entire ecosystem digitally, the telecom operator boasts of a wide fleet of applications. Most apps require users to create a Jio ID and password in order to be used.  Jio applications such as MyJio, JioChat, JioPlay, JioOnDemand, Jio Beats, JioMags, JioXpressNews, JioDrive, JioJoin, JioMoney and JioSecurity, which are currently available for download on both iOS and Android devices. Two of the most promising applications include Jio Security and Jio On Demand.
