Reliance’s Jio LYF Flame 6 debuts at Rs 3999

LYF smartphones were launched in January 2016, and since then have expanded to own more than 7% of the market. LYF has already become the 2nd largest LTE phone provider, having sold more than 1.5 million devices by April-end. Reliance Digital’s subsidiary Reliance LYF launched its latest device - LYF Flame 6 on the 5th of June, which retails at Rs. 3999.

With the LYF Flame 6, the audiences captured are the ones new to the smart phone market. An entry level device, it is affordable and offers all basic Android features along with Reliance Jio 4G services, providing a seamless voice and data experience. Additionally, it offers in-built services like JioMoney, JioBeats, MyJio, JioXpressNews, and JioDrive.

Jio Chat deserves a special mention of its own. It allows one to host 500 members in a single group chat and transfer files amounting to 100 MB. Group conversations can be further enhanced with the video conference option, which lets 5 people have an audio-visual experience simultaneously.

Flame 6 specifications

In a black variant, the Flame 6 comes with Asahi Dragontail glass for protection. With a 4-inch display, one can stream content and watch it on the 218ppi dense screen. The device operates on a 1.5 HGZ quad core processor, and runs on 512 MB RAM. For capturing photographs, Flame 6 offers 2MP front and back cameras. The back camera is equipped with high dynamic range imaging and has features like Smile Shutter, anti-banding, and slow motion shooting.

When it comes to memory, the phone is equipped with 4 GB internal memory and external memory that can be expanded with a memory card up to 32 GB.

Reliance Jio Infocomm

Currently running on a trial basis, Jio is gearing up for a much-awaited launch. An upcoming data, telephone and broadband service provider, it already has a large subscriber base, and is only gaining popularity. Reliance Chairman, Mukesh Ambani signed a deal with Reliance Communications for spectrum-sharing across several circles on the 800 MHz bandwidth. This move would help enhance the reach of Jio services across the country.

User Base

The initial launch was restricted to employees, major stakeholders, and associates. Jio followed that up by allowing employees to invite their friends and family to avail of trial Jio SIMs along with LYF smart. These SIM cards provide free 4G data services and voice calling for three months. Jio had more than 0.5 million users in April. On average, it was noted that more than 18GB worth data, and 250 minutes of voice calling were used in the first month.

Future Plans

According to an April report by Morgan Stanley, Jio 4G is set for a full launch in the upcoming 3-6 months. An estimate of 30 million subscribers is presumed to join Jio by March 2017. Revenue from Jio is expected to cross $1 billion by the end of this financial year.
