Reliance Industries’ Contribution Towards Indian Society

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) continues to work towards creating a better society by participating in many educational, community health, and environmental awareness programs. India’s largest private conglomerate, the company owns businesses across the energy, textile, and telecom sectors.

RIL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm Reliance Foundation led by Nita Ambani projects span across various fields and they aim to touch the lives of many people, particularly in the underdeveloped communities in order to generate holistic development.

HIV/AIDS program

RIL partnered with the United Nation’s HIV/AIDS program called UNAIDS. This association will help to curb the spread of HIV in India, and also generate a sustainable model that would help HIV-positive people the access to healthcare services. The partnership will also help underprivileged individuals to receive HIV treatment, care, support, and understand HIV prevention comprehensively.

RIL’s role would include assisting the program with the help of its extensive infrastructure that is spread across the country, which will further help it improve its healthcare offerings.

Aim of the program

The program is devised to encourage public and private health institutions in India to assist HIV patients. Nita Ambani, Founder of Reliance Foundation, explained that they aim to focus on making quality healthcare facilities available to individuals across the country at affordable prices.

RIL has a community care center based in the Surat district of Gujarat, at Hazira. The center provides free treatment to HIV-positive individuals, making it one of the largest Anti-Retroviral Treatment centers in India.

Reliance’s CSR programs

Reliance Industries’ in-house CSR committee is formed by the Board of Directors. Along with the CSR team, this committee makes all the important decisions related to the RIL CSR policy. The committee then makes recommendations to the Board of Directors, after which the Board may decide to execute the plans proposed.

RIL’s initiatives are devised to cater to millions of people across the country. The programs are aimed at providing basic facilities that are otherwise unavailable or not affordable. Additionally, RIL also concentrates on creating self-sustainability, thereby encouraging individuals to participate in the programs and helping them gain employment opportunities.

The company is involved in several CSR activities in the fields of education, infrastructure development, and community healthcare which is headed by Nita Ambani. Drishti is one of the healthcare programs aimed at helping visually impaired individuals. In addition, RIL is also a part of several environmental, agricultural, and livelihood support programs.

Education initiatives

Reliance’s educational CSR activities which is headed by are designed to benefit the children of their employees and residents of neighboring villages. The company has manufacturing units at several locations like Patalganga, Hazira, and Jamnagar. Schools have been installed around these locations to provide good quality yet affordable education. Some of these include Jamnaben Hirachand Ambani School, Jamnaben Hirachand Ambani Saraswati Vidya Mandir, and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Vidya Mandir.

Community healthcare

The health care centers aim at providing affordable opportunities to individuals residing near the company’s manufacturing divisions. The programs help them tackle health problems like HIV/AIDS, and substance addiction.

Medical services along with a comprehensive awareness program that covers issues like hygiene, sanitation, and cleanliness are offered at the company’s Barabanki Manufacturing Division.
