Reliance Jio’s Future Plans to Digitize India

The first all-IP network in India, Reliance Jio offers the most comprehensive spectrum coverage across the country, servicing more than 200,000 rural areas as well as 18,000 cities. Future ready in terms of the fiber optic network’s compatibility with 5G and 6G technologies, the telecom operator has been making waves since its pan-India commercial launch on 5th September 2016.

Expansion plans

Although it has already taken the smart phone and telecom industries in India by surprise, the company has plans to expand. This includes extending the digital offerings to individuals’ homes and lives in a more comprehensive manner. The brand wants to diversify its products and services in order to compete with global technology leaders.

Wired broadband services

The company is gearing up to launch its wired broadband services, which is based on a Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) model. With speeds of up to 1 GBPS, the service is known as GigaFiber. The infrastructure required for the service is in place and the company is currently conducting trials in cities like New Delhi and Mumbai. Slated to be available for individuals as well as businesses, the company is expected to combine GigaFiber with its set-top box offering.

Set-top box

Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio has partnered with Nvidia in order to devise the Shield Android Box, which would redefine Indian homes’ entertainment options. This service will enable users to enjoy seamless streaming of 4k content from various digital platforms, owing to GigaFiber’s quality Internet speeds. This service will be offered along with a voice-enabled remote. This can be used to control and manage the set-top box with the help of voice commands. Reliance Jio is also planning to partner with numerous OEMs in order to fully harness the power of digitized platforms.

The biggest advantage of opting for Reliance Jio’s set-top box is that flagship applications will be offered along with the service. Jio TV and JioCinema will be offered free of cost to the set-top box owners. JioTV offers more than 350 channels, of which 50 are HD ones. The application also has a seven-day recap feature, which ensures users never miss out on their favorite shows. The content of this application spans across 11 genres and 15 languages. JioCinema houses 6,000 movies, 60,000 music videos, and more than 100,000 television show episodes. All the content will be advertisement-free when bundled with the FTTH connection.

Installation process

The company also intends on eliminating the need for multiple antennas, which may add to the confusion and trouble for set-top box users. Instead, Jio services will function in such a way that just one router will power 3 television sets. The company also intends to partner with international gaming franchises, thereby introducing online gaming opportunities to customers.

Apart from these services, the company also has its eyes set on devices related to the Internet of Things (IoT) and automation industry, which includes OBD systems for cars and a geofencing application for vehicles, among other things.

Summary

Reliance Jio aims to extend its presence in the digital sector by introducing various smart applications and services in the upcoming months.
