Reliance Jio’s welcome offer led to a large demand for 4G-LTE services in the country. The brand, although a new player in the telecom industry, managed to provide tough competition to incumbent operators with its clever marketing strategy. This mainly entailed providing free data and calling services for three months through the Jio Welcome Offer. However, this offer will be expiring in December.
To provide these free services to customers for a longer period of time, Reliance Jio has announced a new promotional offer called the
Jio Happy New Year Offer. But, unlike the welcome offer, the new offer will have a fair usage policy (FUP) of 1 GB to reduce congestion on Jio’s network.
Mukesh Ambani’s views on demonetization
Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited also made an announcement regarding the Indian Government’s efforts to implement demonetization in India, referring to it as a great way to transform the country into a digital economy. He further added that the move will benefit Jio’s digital wallet application, JioMoney, and create a convenient transaction process for customers. With respect to the government’s demonetization initiative, Mukesh Ambani said that the attempt will create a more transparent economy and benefit the citizens of the country. He added that digitizing the economy will also mean that people will no longer have to line up in queues to pay bills and make other transactions. He concluded by praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his wise decision as well as his idea of Digital India.
Digital wallet apps
Reliance Jio is set to further develop this wallet application by collaborating with 10 million retailers from 400,000 villages and 17,000 towns. Currently, the application is open for downloading to customers of Jio as well as subscribers of other service providers. Mukesh Ambani also stated that retailers can download Jio’s Money Merchant application from the 5th of December.
Jio services
The Reliance Jio network had earlier witnessed inconvenience when incumbent operators refused to provide points of interconnection (PoI). Mukesh Ambani had stated that close to 900 calls made by Jio users to customers on other carrier networks had been blocked. But the issue has now been resolved and incumbent operators are now cooperating. Jio’s call block rate has considerably reduced, which has further improved the quality of its services. This is also one of the reasons for the company to introduce the Jio Happy New Year Offer, in order to allow customers to enjoy its data, voice, and app services for an extended period.
Reliance Jio recently recorded a customer base of over 50 million in only three months, which has even surpassed the time taken by major companies like WhatsApp and Facebook to achieve the same. The company has been known to sign up six lakh customers on a daily basis, which explains its impressive customer base. Mukesh Ambani also revealed that Jio customers are consuming 25 times the data used by average broadband users in India. The Jio Happy New Year Offer will be valid till the 31st of March, 2017. Those who are currently using Jio SIM cards will also be able to avail of the offer.
Summary
Reliance Jio will be offering free data, app, and calling services as an extension of its welcome offer.
