Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio made a successful foray into the telecom sector with its high-speed 4G data services. The brand is now keen on tapping the broadband industry by offering customers superior fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) services. In September 2016, Jio had begun testing these services to monitor the performance before a full-scale launch.
Jio Fiber services free for three months
A recent report by India Today revealed that Jio has now launched the service called Jio Fiber across Mumbai. Residential spaces in areas like Nepeansea Road and Walkeshwar Road have been introduced to the service. A resident from one of the buildings in Walkeshwar Road confirmed this news by stating that several others in his building were also availing of the facility. Jio Fiber is offering users speeds of up to 1 Gbps. Since Jio Fiber is in its nascent phase, the brand is offering free unlimited services to customers for three months as part of an introductory offer. Users only need to pay Rs. 4,500 for the router and installation charges.
About Jio Fiber FTTH connection
Jio Fiber uses fiber optic technology for superior connectivity and speeds. Jio’s FFTH connection offers better speeds than regular broadband services. Since Jio Fiber offers speeds up to 1 Gbps, users are able to download data at the rate of 125 Mb (megabytes) per second. This means, if a user had to download a video, it would take only around four seconds through Jio Fiber. Managing Director and Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited, Mukesh Ambani, had stated during Jio’s official launch that the FTTH service would be available for both business as well as home subscribers.
Tariff plans for Jio Fiber
Post the expiration of the free services for three months, the Jio Fiber connection plans are expected to start from Rs. 500 per month. Reliance Jio will most likely be offering volume-based and speed-based tariffs. Speed-based tariffs will mainly comprise five plans that are expected to offer speeds ranging from 50 Mbps to 600 Mbps. These plans will have a validity of 30 days. The volume-based tariffs, which are also slated to carry a validity of 30 days, may offer download limits between 5 GB and 60 GB. Jio may also introduce a special tariff plan, which would offer data download limit of 600 GB and speeds of up to 60 Mbps. This plan would be valid for 330 days. These tariff plans are subject to change once Jio Fiber begins large-scale operations.
Apart from introducing its own FTTH services, the telecom operator is also offering free data services and premium applications under the Jio Happy New Year Offer. This offer is scheduled to expire on 31st March 2017.
Mukesh Ambani led Jio also has a selection of plans designed for every user, which are affordable and offer complete value for money. The brand even intends to launch VoLTE-enabled 4G feature phones. These phones are mainly targeted at individuals living in the country’s rural areas. These devices will allow them to avail of 4G services without weighing down their budget.
Summary
Jio Fiber, Reliance Jio’s FTTH service is available for customers in Mumbai and offer unlimited free services for three months.
